Safia Ibrahim khel is an Afghan refugee living in Pakistan. She was born and grew up in an Afghan refugee camp in Peshawar, Pakistan. She completed her primary and high school in an Afghan refugee camp in Peshawar. She graduated from college with a major in Political Science and Sociology and later completed her master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Peshawar. She recently completed her MPhil degree in International Relations. Safia is a youth activist working for women’s socio-economic empowerment, advocating for education, women, and youth integration in peace and security. In 2019 she was awarded and selected as a Youth Peace Ambassador for Pakistan and Afghanistan Youth Dialogues. She has also worked as a youth consultant and as a Co-chair of the UNHCR Global Youth Advisory Council (GYAC) and Global Students Leader in the Tertiary Refugee Students Network (TRSN). Recently she established her own network under the title of Voices of Afghan Refugee Youth (VARY). Safia Also worked as a teaching assistant with the Refugee-Led Research Hub, at Oxford University. Safia is passionate about the rights of young people, especially adolescent girls and young women. At the age of 12 and still in high school she started advocacy and stand against child marriage and traditional practices in her community. She worked as a teacher and provided education at her home for homeless children and girls out of school. She also worked as a volunteer and paid employee for different local NGOs. Safia worked on a women’s socio-economic empowerment project to support female-headed families from both refugee and host communities to cope with Rebuilding their homes in flood-affected areas in 2012. Since her college time, Safia has been involved in volunteering and Organizing local events such as cultural exchange events, capacity building training, and workshops on Leadership, Civic Engagement, Conflict resolution, and Code of conduct or do no harm workshops to bring refugee community and host community in the same platform, especially young people of both communities to work as a partner and collaborate with each other to find the solution for their problems and promote peaceful coexistence.
